As a Choral Teacher with 6 years of experience teaching choirs in high school settings, I apply with enthusiasm for this opportunity.

I am currently the Choral Teacher and Orchestra Director at Sunnybank High, where I cultivate students’ interest in choral music through teaching vocal techniques, scales, music theory, and sight reading. I explain and demonstrate pitch, tempo, rhythm, and other concepts that are fundamental to playing music and singing. I also direct choir performers, soloists, and ensembles.

I find teaching energizing and intellectually stimulating, especially in view of the steep challenges that music education now presents. While I teach my students to be excellent performers, I also strongly believe that music positively influences self-esteem, communication skills, stress management, and creativity for their entire life. Furthermore, while it is important to draw upon classical choral music, I also seek out contemporary material to stimulate younger learners.

In addition to my experience, I hold a Bachelor of Music Education (Choral Studies). Before I became a teacher, I performed extensively across North America and Europe in church and secular settings. This enables me to better relate to students from different cultural backgrounds.
