As a Recreational Therapist with 2 years of experience working with correctional facility and mental health clients, I apply with enthusiasm for this opportunity.

In my most recent position as Recreational Therapist at Sunnybank Correctional Facility I designed and instructed 63 clients in a program of individual and group activities of a physical, social, and cultural nature, drawing upon my extensive knowledge of social work and physical/creative arts therapy. I worked closely with the therapeutic team to establish individual treatment goals, coordinate therapy, monitor client progress, record clinical notes, and prepare reports.

My approach is based on a client-centred pedagogy, utilizing educational research and evidence-based learning practices. Activities were designed to engage clients, stimulate physical and cognitive ability, and encourage social interaction. I am proactive about building strong collaborative relationships with external stakeholders such as instrument and sporting equipment providers to draw upon their expertise, resources, and services. Successes included weekly dance, yoga, and art classes held on site at the facility by security-cleared by external teachers.

In addition to my Graduate Diploma in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Recreational Therapy, I hold social work and creative arts therapy-related certifications including IV Disability, IV Training and Assessing, and Color and Design in Creative Arts Therapy.
