Why is it great?

Packed with relevant keywords. Take a look at the job advertisement and look for any repeating or untypical words that best describe the job — those are your keywords. Add them to your resume to ensure that your resume passes the initial ATS scan.

Keyword examples

Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation, CVA, TBI, SCI, Inpatient Acute Care Rehabilitation, certified neurological specialists.

Straight-to-the-point bullet points. Bullet points give your resume a clear structure. They also make it much easier to read and allow the hiring manager find the most important information fast.

Resume example

Student Physical Therapist 08/2016 – 12/2017

Methodist Sports/Ortho Rehabilitation, Houston

— Outpatient Sports + Orthopaedics

— Practiced under orthopedic and sport certified specialists to deliver thorough and comprehensive treatments to improve patient outcomes and facilitate returnt to sport

— Managed post-op protocols and coordinated care with physicians and surgeons to achieve patient goals

— Participated in intensive manual therapy workshops under certified specialist

Say what you did, not what you were supposed to do. Instead of listing your responsibilities (what you were supposed to do), tell them about your accomplishments (what you actually did). This alone will make your resume much more impactful. Write your resume in past tense to help you achieve that.

Resume example

— Practiced under orthopedic…

— Managed post-op protocols…

— Participated in intensive manual therapy…

How to make it even better?

Keep it short. This resume is over one page long. In most cases, one page is more than enough (unless you’re applying for an executive role). Also, if you decide to go with two pages, make sure to fill them both with content. Leftover blank space makes a terrible impression.

Describe your past accomplishments in detail. Your resume is the right place to brag. Don’t be afraid to do so. If you want to do it effectively, describe your past accomplishments in detail. If you want to give it even more weight, put your accomplishments in numbers (whenever you can).
