Day-to-day responsibilities include researching and advising on inclusions issues, organizing disability services, supporting the recruitment team, and even maintaining relationships with diversity-related businesses to improve company brands. To perform well, Diversity Managers have to have an understanding and awareness of diversity and inclusion issues and the best practices to address them. Knowledge is one thing though. Another is the ability to communicate and influence people to implement your ideas.

1. Show that you have some background in this field

Companies have only recently gotten into caring about issues of work inclusivity and diversity. A trend which we most welcome. Because of the “new” nature of this trend though, it is hard for companies to find many people who truly have adequate expertise in it.

If you think you did something that was directly or indirectly connected to work inclusivity in the past, you should definitely add it to your resume. Also, make sure you adequately describe what you did and what the outcome of your work was. Anyone would want to hire a person who has more credibility, especially when the credibility is still quite rare to have.
